Great video and great points made by other posters. I started playing guitar at 45 and that was nearly two years ago. Although I was completely new to guitar, I wasn't new to music and had previously played brass (hence my forum handle) at a fairly high amateur level.
I think a key to success for learning as an adult is to set reasonable goals for yourself, realizing that you may not achieve the level of Eric Clapton, John Mayer, etc. And that's ok. For me personally, classical music and in particular Bach's Cello suites have always been an attraction ever since I started studying them playing brass. And since I've gotten into this hobby, I've discovered the likes of Gabriella Quevedo, Daria Semikina, and others on Youtube who have made wonderful arrangements that I hope to be able to tackle one day

Yep, what PetesaHut said. I’m 64, playing for years but never real fingerpicking. Started lessons for that 6 weeks ago and so happy I did. As I’ve gotten older I’ve found my own biggest obstacle to learning new things is a fear that I can’t learn well anymore. That ability is still there, it’s just the fear and doubt that gets in the way.

Wayne Charvel of Charvel Guitars once rebuked me gently one day when I was complaining about my lack of skill.
He asked me when I was planning on quitting. I said never. He said then just learn a new chord or a new technique every month and keep adding it to what you already can do. I've been adding for 20 yrs now. Still not very good, but better than I was.

Hello everyone. I am new here, and a new guitar player as well. I bought myself my first guitar, an S&P Songsmith, about three weeks ago, as a 58th birthday gift to myself. My goal is to learn to play it well enough that though I may never be "good" by some standards, my playing it would not be unwelcome around a campfire.

I’m 71 years old, haven’t picked up a guitar in well over 40 years and I didn’t know much then. Got new strings for my old guitar and bought a new 6 string. Looking forward to this a lot.
