Default Steve Baughman - The Celtic Session

I've been working with Steve Baughman to capture a collection of his Celtic arrangements on video. Steve's gotten to be known for his clawhammer stuff for a while now, and he wanted to revisit his roots. We just created a You Tube channel for this effort, and released the first batch of tunes last night. There's much more to come, so if you're interested, consider subscribing to the channel: The Celtic Session

Here's a couple of the videos we have posted so far:

Thanks, Doug. I just subscribed. I have taken some lessons with Steve and really like his arrangements and his musical sensibilities.

Best,
Jayne

We finally finished this project last night, and the playlist now has 15 videos:

The last video is an interesting tutorial of Steve's "middle finger thwack" techniques.

Very nice. Don't think I've seen someone get such a delicate attack on the strings wearing fingerpicks in long time.

I think the guitar Baughman's playing in these videos is a Circa built by John Slobod. If not, I'd like to be corrected. In any case it's a wonderful sounding instrument.
Congratulations to Doug Young and Steve Baughman on this fine project!

Yes, the guitar is called out in the credits at the end of each video - a Steve Baughman model 7/8 Dread by John Slobod/Circa Guitars. This guitar was featured in Acoustic Guitar Magazine a while back as well. Steve's been playing this guitar for quite a while (as you can see...) Steve does play one other guitar on one video in this series - the 1890-ish Washburn that's hanging on the wall in the background.

There's a lot to be learned in there, thanks for this.

Indeed it is and I missed it by quitting the videos before the final credits appeared. You'd think I'd know better by my age!

In any case both the recording quality and performances are a treat to the ears.

I just subscribed.

While I don't know much about Celtic music, I find Baughman's approach, and his technique, to be fantastic. I own two of his albums and they are among my favorite solo guitar albums. Now I'm very pleased to have these videos. Great work all around.

Thanks for creating these.

That's fantastic, Doug... thank you for sharing. I love listening to Steve. I've been able to hear him many times at Swannanoa and always enjoy it. Great stuff!

And I've never seen one of John's guitars that failed to wow me.
