NGD--Larrivee OM-40R

I found an OM-40R that is a nice pairing with my OM-40. They feel the same, both resonate and sustain. The rosewood has a really satisfying tone. If I can manage it, I'll record an A/B of these two guitars.

The 40R completely scratched the itch I got from a 000-28 sunburst Martin. The playability is outstanding, the tone is amazing. I am no longer lusting after that Martin. This Larrivee checks all of the boxes for me at about 1/3 the cost.

This guitar was lightly used and has a couple of pick marks. There's a reasonable chance I'll unintentionally add a few more.

Larrivee did a great job with the Legacy series. Do you think you'll keep both the 40 and 40R? Is there one you prefer?

I’ve tried so many strings on mine and I keep going back to the new Martin treated PB lights.
The only brand left that I will experiment with are GHS.

I'll keep both. I've not played the 40r enough to decide if I like it better than the 40 (or vice versa). I guess I'd say, at this point, that I like them differently. Time permitting, I'll record and A/B them today. I love that the feel and playability of the guitars is the same. The sound, as expected, is different but one is not better than the other as far as I can tell.

I bought the 40R to scratch an itch for a small body rosewood guitar as most of my guitars are mahogany. As I mentioned earlier, I'd played a 000-28 Martin at a local store that was inspirational. So far, the 40R is, for me, equally inspirational.

The neck is comfortable and not as big as it seems in the pictures. I don't have large hands. My Larrivees are quite comfortable to play.

Are these (40 & 40R) older (pre Sept.2017), or newer versions, wondering if they have the compound radius necks? Which I prefer.

Congratulations. You now have "bookend" guitars - a term I use for two variations of the same model. I'd be curious to hear an A/B comparison.

I see that you have several Larrivees. Have you ever owned a "regular" Larrivee OM? I'm highly satisfied with my OM-03R - but those -40's intrigue me.

The 40 is a June 2015 build and the 40R is a September 2016 build.

Don't know about the compound radius. If so, I like it. If not, I like it.
