I have two Hercules stands. I've been using them for years now, and one of them shows these symptoms, while the other is just fine.

The sticky stuff can be cleaned with isopropylalcohol quite successfully and stay clean for a long time (years). I understand though that this is a temporary solution, as it reveals that the plastic material is of low quality, so I expect these plastic parts to disintegrate eventually.

Tried to contact Hercules but that link in their webpage is conveniently "under construction". The website says to contact the distributor. I guess I should take it to Guitar Center.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

Go to the Hercules website, follow their instructions for a warranty claim. Several of us just went through this, they'll send a new stand.

Only if you're in the US. If you're anywhere else, they're not interested, you can go hang.

This is one of the reasons I use the Hercules GS405B model.
No question - great stand.

I'd already repaired my stand using a plastic auto panel pin which I was ready to live with. Somebody mentioned warranty so I tried it. They sent an upgraded 414B.

I offered the old stand to a good friend today. He snapped it up.
