Arrow A Kostal MDW for cigarfan

Right now I am through the roof! Jason is ready to start my guitar. Starting the new year right! WooHoo!

The specs starting off are:

Top: German Spruce
Back and Sides: African Blackwood
Binding: Cocobolo
Manzer Wedge
Florentine Cut-away
12-fret Body Join

Overall Length: 39.25″
Body length: 19.375″
Upper Bout: 11.250″
Waist: 10.00″
Lower Bout: 15.00″
Depth at Neck: 3.75″
Depth at End: 4.25″
Scale Length: 25.00″

Jason sent me these photos of the ABW. Most ABW is pretty dark and difficult to discern grain at a distance. This is some of the straightest grain I've seen on a set.

In this next photo Jason set the back pieces together showing the sapwood. Although the sapwood looks nice, we have some decisions to make about our backstrip and maybe some deco work on the back which may look better without it.

And for the last photo, one of Jason's rosettes I really like. I told him I would not be upset if mine was exactly like this.

I am really pumped about this project getting started. More photos as they come in. Think I'll go out and have a cigar to celebrate!

Yahoo! I know it has been at least a couple of years wait! That ABW is amazing looking. Start doing a few curls and wrist work-outs, that MDW in ABW is going to have a little heft behind it!!!

Could it possibly be ready to be unveiled at B.I.G.?????

Beautiful set of African blackwood you got there, congratulations! It’s really as good as a quartered set can get, especially if you love the look of sap wood. Thanks for sharing your build w us!

Dennis, you are one lucky man! That is a really beautiful set of blackwood, and a truly gorgeous rosette. I am sure Jason will deliver a stellar guitar.

That is exciting. The last guitar By Mr Kostal I saw in person was in a glass case at the music museum in Phoenix. Have to figure out a way to wangle an invite to see it when it's delivered. Congrats in advance and happy new year.

Jeff
