Default soundboard inlays?

Have any of you builders ever tried wooden inlays on the soundboard, or perhaps built in as part of it? I know the first thing that comes up is "how will it affect the sound" and that is what I'm wondering too. Everyone does rosettes, but I was thinking about something elsewhere on the soundboard with a material like mahogony or redwood. These woods are often used for tops themselves, so I was wondering if it is feasable to use something that contrasts visually and still get good tone? Perhaps an actual inliay would add too much mass in the form of extra glue, but what would happen if you basically but a hole in the soundboard and joined a simple design like you would join the two halves of the top or back? I'm not any kind of woodworker so I have no idea of the difficulty level involved, but I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks, Pat

Inlaying on the soundboard has been done by several builders. Aside from Kevin, another example of an AGF sponsor that has done that is Andy Zimmerman of Lazy Dog Guitars.

He's inlayed his signature "paw prints" on the soundboard of one of his builds, that he uses for his avatar picture.

I wonder what a guitar would sound like if it had a cedar top with spruce inlays in key areas to stiffen it up a bit...

To the builders: I'm pretty sure we all know why Kevin did that inlay.

I'd be a little nervous about inlaying a top simply because the constant vibration could easily loosen glue joints.
