H4 Built-In Stereo Mics Question
I will be using my H4 primarily to record acoustic guitar playing solo fingerstyle arrangements.
For the most part I will be using the built-in stereo mics on the H4. For those of you doing similar type recording . . . my question is: are you getting better results just using the built-in stereo mics in their default (no mics modeling module setting) . . or are you getting better results with one of the four mic model modules (SM57 - MD421 - U87 - C414)? Thanks for your input.

No models works best for me. I am a believer that mics have a signature characteristic sound and I don't mess with it, and record without compression or EQ. |

I hope you get some more replies, GG. I'd be interested myself. I enjoy the different mic models and can tell a difference between them, but I've stopped using them. I haven't had the time to experiment fully with them, and using the built in mics are completely acceptable to me. Over time I'm sure I'll form more of an opinion but wouldn't mind getting jump started by other users' successes with the models.

One would probably get more attention if the post were in the right section of the forum (Recording section versus in the General Acoustic section). |

Thanks lj and cotten for moving my thread to the right section.\
I've been experimenting with the mic modes and I think I'll just stick with using no mic modes.

The build-in mics work just fine for me.

It's a smart approach to avoid any kind of processing while tracking to get the cleanest possible initial recording. Then experiment as you like with software processing/effects (like mic modeling) applied to the recorded file on your computer. And keep a copy of the original, un-altered file.
