Step By Step with everything listed, this is VERY useful to see & hear the progression. Great info which is why I save it.

Doug shared this here at AGF in 2012. Sure some of the gear is now upgraded but it was so good back then it's still useful to see how best to use an ME. And sounds great!

Enjoy, b1j!

Chris, thank you for introducing me to Doug's video. Excellent lesson. This is exactly how I'm feeling about mastering at this stage. As Doug put it,

Part of the point of mastering is to let someone else –– someone with good ears and a lot of experience –– listen to the tracks and do whatever is needed.

SoundCloud says the maximum is 4 MB uncompressed. Who knows?

I just uploaded it, but I didn't see any place to allow others to download it. I'm listening to it now in headphones and it sounds fine. I'm sure I'll critically compare it with the monster files soon.
Actually Sound Cloud says 4 GB limit not MB and SC recommends uploading lossless files so your uncompressed WAV etc. files will be fine they are aprox. 10 MB per minute

Form the web site

What type of file can I upload?
We recommend you to upload in a lossless format like WAV, FLAC, AIFF, or ALAC. We also support a large variety of lossy formats, including OGG, MP2, MP3, AAC, AMR, and WMA.

The maximum file size is 4GB uncompressed. If your file exceeds these criteria, please split it into separate uploads.

Got my Gs and Ms mixed up. No wonder it worked.

Yeah, I think that's one of the biggest benefits, over doing it yourself (assuming you know what to do). It's like working with a publisher/copyeditor for a book - you might proof-read your own work 100 times and think its perfect, then the editor opens it and finds a blatant typo on page 1 - don't ask me how I know :-)

But it is probably best to find a mastering engineer who knows your genre, especially if what you're doing isn't mainstream. Many mastering engineers can handle a wide range of music, I'm sure, but someone who does 99% heavy metal may not have the best experience to know the current state of classical guitar recording and so on. I've heard of cases that went wrong, but you seem to have found a good match for your tune.

That video is pretty old :-) Other than Logic, I'm using totally different gear these days, tho the overall idea isn't radically different, I guess, for what I do.
