I just played the J15, J29, and J35 side by side at Russo's in Asbury Park today. I think the J15 is a winner. Bu the way you can call Scott Engle and order that one if you desired.
The J15 was more complex and slightly less tinny than the J35. It also has a chunky neck, which I loved. The J29 was also nice (Rosewood), but for me I would all other things being equal choose a Martin D28 if I were going rosewood. Actually... the D28 would have to be short scale to be a true comparison.
What you get with all these three guitars is short scale, spruce top, walnut, rosewood, or mahogany back, and advanced AJ bracing. If I were to have walked out with one of them it would be the J15. It had a great look, and sounded sweet.
Oh... and I thought the maple neck would turn me off on the J15. When you see it in person that changes. it feels and looks great.
