Allen's death was a mystery b/c his family declined to have an autopsy performed. I believe that the cause of death was listed as a heart attack, but it's unclear if it was drug related or not. He was not the healthiest of people, so a heart attack at 44yo would be a surprise, but not unrealistic.
In 1994, I had the pleasure of meeting him and actually hanging out with him. The ABB was headlining the H.O.R.D.E. tour, and hardly anyone recognized him, so he was free to walk the grounds during the festival. He ended up hanging with our group for an hour and politely declined, when we offered him a beer. He was funny, friendly, gracious, and a talented bass player. RIP Allen and Gregg.
