The Major Scale.

Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 -5 - 6 -7 -1

When you hear (or read) folks say stuff like "augmented 5th" or "major 7th" THESE are the numbers they are referring to.
