Not sure about the noise, but I have settled on normal tension classical strings and tuned G to G. I have found that classical strings are much better than the branded Aquila trebles.
Higher tensions tend to choke out the treble sustain on mine. I have been using Mari 100p trebles and savarez basses and have been happy with it for travelling.
