Bit late but to confirm - the width of the nut is exactly as it reads - the outside edge of the nut which should correspond exactly to e width of the very end of the fretboard.

At the other end over te saddle the "string spacing" refers to the distance -between centre" of the two out side strings.

Nut widths are commonly 1 & 11/16" for rhythm
1 & 3/4" standard strummers
1 & 13/16" flatpicking /fingerstyle
1 & 7/8" fingerstyle.

String spacing:
2 & 3/8" for intricate picking/fingerstyle over standard scale.
2 & 5/16" for shorter scale (under 25")
2 & 1/4" - rhythm instruments, archtops etc.

Standard scale (flat top) now seems to be 25.4 to 25.5"
Standard scale : archtops/reso - 25"
Short scale (Martin) 24.9"
Short scale (Gibson) Variable but mostly app 24.75

E & OE, YMMV etc.
