I am reading
"Grant" by Ron Chernow.
I have learned a great deal about the post Civil War period that I never, ever learned from any American History course I took in high school or college. It's very well written but a ridiculously thick book. I am on about page 900 right now.

Also, my wife and I are taking turns reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's "Team of Rivals" out loud to each other. I read this book when it came out -- I think 2006 -- but it's fascinating to be reading it again. It reminds me what a great man Lincoln was.
