Interesting to see that SS is making inroads. My go-to amp for more than 20 years has been an old BK Butler Tubeworks hybrid amp with a solid-state power amp and a Tube Driver 12ax7 preamp in front of it.
It's 100w rms and I really almost never need it higher than about 50%. I'm using a 1st generation POD, with a compressor in front of everything and it is quite convincing. I also replaced the worn-out stock speaker with a Celestion V30.
One other nice thing...it only weighs about 25 lbs...I'm getting too old to be horsing heavy tube amps around when I gig, and these things are as reliable as a hammer...and LOUD when it needs to be.
