“I want to build guitars, you see,
And only need two feet—or three—
Or maybe four—of that big board,
That leaves you still a lot to hoard.”

“So can you spare that small a sale?
Though not a mast to hold a sail,
That little piece will be, someday,
The noblest sale you make today.”

“In fifty years—just wait, you’ll see—
I’ll have some friends who ask of me
To build a Texas-themed guitar
And this small piece will be the star.”

Or some such tale was spun until
The owner must have had his fill.
“If that four feet is all you need,
Just take it kid”, I heard him plead.

Best wishes. It will be beautiful either way.

Can't wait to see it all revealed!

Though Oklahoma is where I currently live
For this one Texas treasure a "well done" I would give
I love the idea, the craftmanship, all of the woods
In the end it will no doubt deliver the goods

Seriously impressed all the way around
Well done to all! Can't wait for the sound
To come blossoming out of the soundhole in spades
Enjoy every note, Tom, for all of your days!

A small circle of Hackberry, at just .045” thick and inlaid into solid wood, then banded with doubled rings of Texas ebony, is going nowhere. It has been glued into its channel with very strong glue, then soaked from above with cyanoacrylate. It is far more stable than a solid piece supporting itself.
As for bracing underneath, the sound hole and its vicinity is heavily braced due to the need for structural rigidity. I.e. I feel quite sanguine about this little flourish of figured wood.
As for sonic response, it is inlet into the second deadest part of the top and then is not nearly as unresponsive as—say—a ring of abalone.
Again, quite hopeful that there will be less deadening influences from this than from shell or plastic.
I hope this makes sense,

Steve
Thank you Steve for the wonderful reply,
A search for woods no matter where they may lie.
50 years ago the wood was found,
But who knows how long it was hidden before to Nac it was bound.

A beautiful poem from Treenewt was written,
Much thought it was given.
I thank you for your time and the sentiment within,
I too hope to enjoy it, soon it will begin.

Yes, the hackberry was used for its decorative flare,
As a rosette it is solid and does nothing to scare.
It will have no effect on the sound,
and with the treatment it was given, is beautiful I found.

Thanks one and all for replying in thread,
and I bid you good day, but this time in red!
