I don't think there's anything special about his carbon regarding it's 'flash'. It's the way he finishes it.



I've got some raw carbon fabric, carbon kevlar, and straight fiberglass on hand. I've built some carbon items for remote control gliders and rc cars with it mostly, molding vacuum bagging etc. Straight carbon fibers are pretty shiny on their own. Vacuum bag it against a waxed mylar, and you get a mirror finish. Add paint to the mylar before bagging, and the paint transfers to the carbon. (not the method Alistair uses I'm assuming.)

Go check out the carbon builder forum RCGroups for a little insight into what guys do in their garages with carbon fiber. Absolutely incredible stuff. link
