I had great luck with black cherry juice (not sugary juice "product" or cherry "drink") usually found in the health food aisle in the grocery store. Back when I was actively practicing karate, I would get home 20 minutes after a class, and always had to pre-stage six aspirin and water near the door. Pain brought me nearly to tears just getting up three steps into the house. But a shot glass of black cherry juice had me running up and down the stairs pain-free 15 minutes alter, without the aspirin.

My understanding is that something in cherry juice washes the urea out of the sinovial fluid that lubes the joints. Excess urea is basically gout. Since having knee replacements on both sides, my knees are not nearly so sensitive. FWIW.
