The purfling is made by stacking thin sheets of colored wood on top of each other. What you’re looking at when you look down on the top of the purfling is the edge grain. You’ll make a small stack of colors, cut off multiple pieces from the stack, and then sandwich them together to make a repeating pattern. The stack is cut at an angle so that the purfling stripe is diagonal.
