Since the builders of my best guitars send almost all of their guitars off with D'Addario EJ16s or 17s, I've assumed that they think they sound pretty great with their guitars. (It's incomprehensible for me to imagine that Collings or Huss and Dalton are pinching pennies on strings, when it is the sound of their guitars in the shop that determines most sales.) I've tried a couple of other string choices--and I understand we play differently, hear differently and have different expectations of the sound of our guitars: and a lot of folks like John Pearse strings on their Collings--but found the D'Addarios in a way optimized what I found the guitars best at.

I'm still open to trying new strings, but am hesitant to spend even a few days without the sound that I find most convincing.
