As I'm middle-aged, a beer gut/belly bevel also seemed fitting...

The tool Tom is using here is a beautiful gramil cutter made for him by Mark Gaiero (instagram handle @gaieroguitars) when they apprenticed together at Ervin Somogyi’s shop.

As Tom says: "Routing for the rib bevel. First time doing this, step one complete, nobody died."

Routing to create the rib comfort bevel on the guitar back. Tom says: "I can’t tell you how nerve wracking this was. Fortunately we’re all good.

Life made 100 times easier with a brand new chamfer bit from @radiantools."

I think Tom just found everyone's lost picks...

In the luthier's words:

"I’ve absolutely loved creating this rib comfort bevel, it’s been such a challenge and has required new jigs and fixtures to execute cleanly and safely. Lots of work but really worth the effort.

Here I’m tidying everything up with one of my favourite tools, a Japanese carving rasp, before finally applying the veneer overlay to finish off the job.

This picture gives a little bit more of a sense of how the bevel is constructed."
