The strings are directly attached to the neck. The saddle and the nut are the two terminal ends of the vibrating strings, so the nut is trying to vibrate just as much as the saddle.
The more massive the neck, the more the nut will "resist" vibrating, and the more the energy gets "channeled" to the saddle.
