It may be common with Gretsch cones Bob, but with 12's and a Beard cone it should be no problem left in E. My National cones never collapsed like that, and I've been playing them for years in up tunings! And you know why your Gretsch sounds so much better now, not just the cone, but because a good tech set it up. Every Gretsch reso I've ever picked up was in dire need of that. I'm a hard core Gretsch fan so don't think I'm slagging the company, I'm not, just their reso setups!
