I've had a Martin DRS1 for about 7 years. It seems the specs are pretty similar to the DRS2. Mine is solid sapele top and back and sides.

It's a great playing guitar, is beautiful, and has required very little attention over the years to maintain. It's got good sustain and balanced volume across the strings. It does not have a thumping bass. It's not as loud as I hope a dread would be.

The way the matte finish has become shiny in the spots where my hand rests looks beautiful, in my opinion. I have read that some people do not like this, but I do.

The electronics have always done exactly what I need for open mics etc. Just need a spare 9 volt in the case, just in case.

I will never sell for sentimental reasons. Sentiments aside, I think it's a good guitar for the money. It's mellower sound (likely from the sapele top?) might not be for everyone, especially those looking for more punch. However the DRS2 looks to be a different top anyways.

Happy hunting!
