To the OP - audition both models plugged in to see which sound you prefer (ES1 or 2) - some people have said they don't prefer the new over the old.

Honestly, when I played the ES1 and ES2 plugged in to an Acoustic Amp at guitar center, I thought the ES1 sounded better. It was more brighter, but thinner (You need to turn the volume knobs pretty high to hear the pickups). The ES2 to me sounded more fat (you don't need to turn the volume knob that high). It didn't sound like a taylor acoustic anymore. Also, they both were using the black pickguard
