I have no idea. You'll need to contact them and ask. But a down payment seems likely: I doubt they'd ask you to send them your instrument if they're just going to let it sit in a corner for months.
But you said you are looking to avoid a lengthy wait right? It won't hurt to check, but I'd be surprised if folks like Robinson, Leach, or Wingert didn't have considerable waitlist.
