Have you tried boosting the volume in the video with a program before uploading to Youtube? I always have to do that, it's kind of annoying.
But yeah, I think the HD unit and external mic is the way to go. With the Q3, you have to position it so that you can take a good video, but that might not be the best position for a good sound.
