Compared to the D-18, it is older sounding. More airy and refined, and it has more midrange than the Martin. Honestly, the Martin sounds “mushy” in my wife’s words. The Taylor is louder and more focused, and the Martin sounds softer and mushy. Maybe I just got a good one. What I’m hearing in the Martin now is all lows and highs. It sounds scooped and the 717 sounds like an OM-28 on steroids.
And it is SOOOO comfortable. I found my guitar guys!
