Personally, I would contact Jim at Lil Dawg amps to see what he could build me in that price range. He builds great classic amps (mostly Fender) but others as well at reasonable prices. You can even save money by just buying a chassis build and then making your own 1x10 or 1x12 extension cab. Or you can just buy one.
Jim will build almost anything, is a great guy who is greatly respected, and you get something handwired. There is a lot of info about Jim over at the Telecaster forum, a place that obsesses over amps.
If you are not into that I'd go for the PRRI or 68 Custom Princeton. I like Vox as well but prefer Fender for most cleans.
