The first two UK studio albums (Please Please Me/With the Beatles) and Live at the BBC - all the raw infectious energy of the late Cavern Club shows captured for posterity, sadly never to be repeated again in recorded (and rarely in live) form; if you were a young musician (on either side of the Atlantic) in 1963-64 as I was, these (or their Capitol USA counterparts) were your how-to guide to what a rock band should be - and for my former students (whose knowledge of the Beatles was based almost exclusively on the post-Pepper period) they were required listening...
