This offering may not be modern as in new guys that just came out, but I find that the Del McCoury Band plays in a nice, tastefully balanced, easy to listen to manner.
I am put off by an overly oppressive banjo in some bluegrass songs. The banjo is like medicine. A little is good. Too much can kill you/the song. McCoury (in the songs I’ve listened to) seems to highlight the fiddle and to a lesser extent the mandolin much more than the banjo. That “mix” won me over.
