Bach Trios by Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, and Edgar Meyer.

Each a wonderful musician in their own right, and together this just works so well. The interplay between the lines written by Mr Bach is clear as day and repays repeated listening.

I almost didn’t get it because I’ve got a lot of Bach already and there’s only so much mandolin playing I can remain enthusiastic about. (It’s like harpsichord, great in small doses but when played solo the lack of sustain and sameness of tone might be a bit monotonous).

If you think you don’t like classical music, you can buy it as “another mandolin record from Chris Thile”. Listen to his playing the first time through, and afterwards you might realise how often your ears have followed the cello or the bass instead. Wonderful...
