You're probably correct in an old Martin. My possible price range being a new martin 0/00-18 and wait for the strings to die I guess.

Check out this old reverb listing. I’m seeing a lot of similarities - mahogany back/sides, slotted headstock, no visible name on the headstock, no pickguard. Does that look similar?

You can also get a lot of decay with a ladder-braced guitar. I believe Jeff Tweedy also has a Waterloo WL-S (deluxe?) that’s good for a similar sound.
