I think this portion of your comment in post #9 is spot on. While the midrange in these smaller bodied CF guitars is always pronounced (physics), you still get great clarity and punchiness. Often it is that clarity that is so lacking in smaller bodied guitars from the wooden varieties.

Below is one of my favorite videos that compares many of the most popular travel sized CF guitars (just wish the X7 was in here too). To my ears they all sound great. A bit dated as the Touring and OF660 have had updates, but pretty good anyway.
