These satellite pictures show just how close the bushfires came to the town of Eden, New South Wales where I live.
The town can be seen in the upper half of Twofold Bay - the woodchip mill on the opposite side of the bay has 75,000 tonne on fire - it's still burning.
The smoke from the Australian bushfires drifted over New Zealand and made it to South America - it is now heading back to Australia after circumnavigating the globe.
My wife and I were evacuated to the town of Merimbula on Jan 3rd - our 39th Wedding Anniversary! - for 2 nights where we slept on the floor in between poker machines of a Returned Soldiers League club.
They were marvelous and looked after everyone.
The town is covered in smoke again from the woodchip mill fire as I type this - I have my guitars all stored in their cases and don't plan on taking them out till the smoke is finally gone.
