Well... no go. The copper Faraday cage around my single coil pickups was three hours of wasted effort. Still hums. Time for new pickups. My efforts don't hurt the sound or cause any wonkiness, and it may have made it so that touching the strings or bridge doesn't suddenly alter the sound (a very disturbing original behaviour), but the hum is still there.
