When I asked "can you improve" I didn't consider the possibility that sometimes one might want to repair a top or replace it for some reason. But what about opening a good factory guitar, voicing the top and/or bottom? The way guitars are glued together (and what I understand of the glues used) don't seem to leave much margin for opening them up without permanent damage?
