Have you tried adjusting the screws? By varying the pressure of the pickup element that touch the saddle you can change the tone of the pickup. My Taylor had become a bit thin sounding so eventually I took the plunge and found an Allen key that fit the screws and started to adjust with a quarter turn each way. My Taylor once again has a great plugged in tone - I would suggest tweaking the pickup first and then having the preamp seen to if that doesn’t work. As was said, the ES2 is not inherently boomy.
