I have a near identical string winder and absolutely love it.
Can you please show a close up of the thin high E string being wound some time, every time I try that pre-cut method that string just pops out under tension and unwinds itself.
No problem with the wound strings.
After some trial and error I found winding all 6 strings to the outside seems to suit my Martin slot head - strings don't touch the headstock or each other.
