I've been tapping one or both feet and counting the beats in my head since 3rd grade (started on a recorder, then saxophone). I don't always do it, it is sort of unconscious now, like blinking. But in learning tricky parts I always revert back. If it's good enough for Tommy Emmanuel it's good enough for me
