This 1956 J-50 is not perfect, but it is a 63-year old cannon that has opened up wonderfully throughout its life. This guitar has the trademark dry, woody Gibson tone in spades. Sitka top, mahogany b/s, and Brazilian rosewood bridge and fingerboard. Surprisingly articulate, without the low-end wooliness sometimes present in a Martin dread. The ultimate singer-songwriter guitar, it projects soft, delicate fingerpicking with sweetness, while maintaining excellent clarity and note separation when played with a flat pick. 1 11/16 nut width, 24.75" scale, standard Gibson specs from this era
Now, for the work done:
-this guitar has a properly repaired and cleated center seam crack that is 100% solid, and is braced with a thin strip of spruce that runs the length of the repair from the bridge to the binding.
-the neck was professionally reset last year, and is straight as an arrow. Original frets are in good shape, original bridge.
-has the usual yellowing and checking (which I love) that is almost a trademark for Gibsons of this vintage.
Thanks!
