The luthier came back proposing koa as the primary binding material as it won't create too much contrast and would look great with the african blackwood sides and back and the carpathian top. The purfling would still alternate light and dark. It's not a wood I would have chosen, but from all the pictures I sent and his experience, that's what he thinks will work perfectly.

The neck is going to be a maple neck with thin strips of koa running down it as well to create a five piece neck.
