I have a pretty simple setup, which is good enough for my needs. I have a Blue Yeti mic, which connects directly via USB. If I want to plug in directly, I have an Apogee Jam component, which will connect to USB or lightning cable, so I can use GarageBand on my laptop or iPad.
I bought the Yeti used and added a stand via Amazon, and the Apogee was purchased new. All in for <$250 (maybe less), plus the laptop / iPad, which I already owned.
