The best place for me would be at house parties, I think. But few are set up for opening acts, and only the BEST are really getting to do these.
I didn't start songwriting until age 55 (four years ago) . . . I've got a lot of catching up to do.
The upside is that I've apparently learned a LOT of the craft just by listening to the masters do it. Part of my "curse" is that my friends have told me that they see "potential" in me. Great . . . so that makes it even harder for me just to "give up".
