Default Head plate veneer & neck

Michael moved on the create the head plate veneer this week. Here is a sequence of photos that gives you some sense of how he creates an intricate design with hardwoods.

On the left is the starting design on paper. The right image shows the Gaboon Ebony pieces rough cut and numbered for assembly.

The Gaboon Ebony pieces, Holly purflings and Koa accent pieces are painstakingly assembled.

The rough assembled veneer and glued together.

The binding and purflings are installed.

The veneer is registered to headstock with pins and the pilot holes are drilled for the tuner posts.

Coming together...

Michael installed one of Mark Blanchard’s double action truss rods (http://www.blanchardguitars.com/guit...russ_rods.html) and glued the Gaboon Ebony fretboard to the Honduran Mahogany neck.

Shaping the neck and the transition to the back head plate veneer.

The neck is rough shaped (sans the heel).
