Default Larry Breslin Engelmann Spruce Brazilian Rosewood Double Top Classical 2006

Larry Breslin Engelmann/Brazilian Double Top Classical Guitar

OVERVIEW

This double top classical guitar was made by Larry Breslin in 2006.
It represents a synthesis of the best in traditional and contemporary guitar luthiery, an excellent concert-level instrument designed to project strongly in larger venues.

The soundboard is comprised of two sets of master grade Englemann spruce, unusually stiff with heavy quatersawn silk throughout.
A middle layer of Nomex material is encapsulated using a vacuum clamping process pioneered by German luthier Matthias Dammann.

The back and matching side sets are very rare pre-convention, old-growth Brazilian rosewood, air dried for 40 years, closer to quarter than flat sawn.
This exceptional tone wood is extremely difficult to obtain at this point, having uncommonly straight grain, gorgeous deep red-orange color, ink black figuration, with spider webbing along the center join.

Side construction features inner Spanish cypress ribs, a traditional Ramirez construction technique.
The neck is made of equally old Cuban cedar.
The fingerboard and bindings are ebony with maple trim.
The headplate is Brazilian rosewood.
The bridge is made of East Indian rosewood and features a secure 12-hole tie block design with mother-of-pearl inlay.
"Leaves I" tuners are from Nicolo Allesi in Italy (550 Euros), beautifully engraved machines that operate smoothly and precisely.

PERFORMANCE & MEASURES

Double top construction delivers a highly responsive guitar with strong projection and sustain.
The instrument's timbre is well balanced with bright trebles, round mids and a deep yet crisp bass register.
Harmonics and open strings produce a rich mix of overtones.
Bracing and wood selection combine to ensure a wide tonal palate and clear note separation.

The neck is very comfortable, designed for maximum playing speed and minimum stress, thinly shaped and remains consistently so from the first position to the 12th.
The fingerboard is bound in ebony to hide the fret tangs, clean and fast.
The guitar's action was recently set by Pimentel & Sons, restrung, frets polished and fingerboard conditioned.
Playing action is very comfortable, with high-E at 2mm and low-E at 3mm above the 12th position.
Standard 650mm scale length.
Nut width is 52mm.

CONDITION

This guitar is mint.
One owner: The instrument has always been carefully maintained.
When not being played, the guitar remains in its case with Boveda two-way humidity control.
There are no issues; no cracks; no dings; no scratches.
The fingerboard and frets are in excellent shape.
The guitar is completely original with no repairs or changes of any kind.
