Ok, think I know more or less what your problem is. You may be facing a grounding issue. You may be using a hollow body electric guitar with magnetic pickup(s), which can induce a nasty buzzing noise when there are ground issues. When you touch the end of the cable you are effectively grounding yourself, and absorbing interference, which cuts noise.
I have been there.
Your di may or may not be going out.
I have the sb1 and I love it. I too play with magnetic pickups.
It does have a ground lift which sometimes helps.
Best thing I ended up doing was grounding my strings. I don't have noise issues every time I play but on days that I do the hum goes away as soon as I touch the (grounded) strings.

Hope this helps
