I picked up the MV88 last summer just to play with. I was very pleased to find that it exceeded my expectations. i actually like it quite a bit for what it is.
I have no experience with the Rode, but considered it when I made my purchase. I went with the Shure based on reviews at several sites.
I think it sounds quite good on acoustic guitar. There's a compression thing that happens with it that is really flattering.
