I've only used the Zoom once for things like this (in that video) and I don't have any experience with other portable recorders. I think it does a good job, but it is rather noisy. I had to pass the file through noise reduction software twice to take out most of the background hiss.
Having moved all of my studio stuff to a rolling cart, I'm looking forward to recording in that room with "real" equipment.
