I have played the later version of of the EC-30 -- the J-185 EC -- that a student of mine owned. I remember being a little disappointed at how quiet it sounded unplugged. The good news is that the EC-30 had an arched laminated maple back, so if it's at all like my similarly built Guild, it should put out quite a bit more volume.

I think the EC-30s are beautifully appointed, with the solid mustache bridge, binding, inlays, etc., but I would personally want to get my hands on one before I committed to buying it, unless there was a generous return policy.

The student's J-185 saved me once at a an outdoor gig when my J-45 got blown off of its stand and broke the nut. He graciously lent me his guitar, and I really liked how comfortable the smaller jumbo body size was.
